Maybe I'm an old lamer but I really don't see. What's so cool in Instagram Stories?
- I really don't see why post a photo knowing it's to disappear in 24 hours by default. It just doesn't make sense! You post photos including to be able to look them through whenever after some time. If your photos are not worth living more than a day, why post it?
- OK, you can put some text onto it making it more like an announcement. “On next Sat I'll tell the story of Moscow metromarathon in this certain place. Come listen. See ya”. Two days before — another one, to keep people remembering it because they read five such announcements a day on a normal day when it's not the end of the world and no one can afford taking time to give a lecture. OK. But why post photo, not just text?
- I really don't see why the photo I'm looking at after some time suddenly disappears and gets replaced by another one. Are photos in Stories not worth long examining by default, not only being published forever? Even if there's something really beautiful on them? I can hold my finger on the screen, and since that a photo won't be changed. But my finger will interfere in my looking at it! Where's any logic?
- At last, I really don't see why post in Stories what you've already posted in normal feed. I mean, that's when you posted something in Instagram and then you post in Stories: “Check out my last post”. They say it's meant to be a try to diminish the effect of Instagram's algorhytmic feed which only that feed is aware of (according to my strange gut feeling, it's not a joke). But it's a double crutch: you publish your content on a social newtork where it's definitely going to be shown to the reader by some illogical and non-profitable (for you) algorythm but you've got a possibility given you by that social network to publish your content cut down in another type of feed to make more readers see it. Where's, again, any logic? Why post anything in rubbish-dumby social network? (Same applies to texts in Facebook: that's the reason I have a blog.)
My Instagram Stories feed is some random shit which I don't look through often. The only way of using Stories I understand is found by a Russian travel blogger I subscribed to: he posts in Stories some moments of his van life through the day, just to make a post out of then in the evening. I look them through just because backstage and photos of French castles are my cup of tea. Or, I understand, as written above, advertising of events there. All the rest (selfies, photos of nails, sea, food, presentation screens from bored students, beer a-lá “see, my fellows and I are getting drunk”) are just rubbish.
Some people say Stories are for those who don't want any control over content consumption online but to be, like, watching TV in social networks. Nothing to do, nothing to think of. Just watching. But the internet is a damn good thing firstly because it's not a telly.
What else don't I see? Comments are open. The option “you're just not present-day” is not accepted. I know this, and it's not a reason.
